Rai: It is impossible to build a state amid political corruption

The Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai called on all the politicians, mainly the rival parties to stop hindering the formation of a new cabinet to serve their personal interests and paralyzing the commercial, touristic and economic activities in the country.    

Rai said that the politicians’ actions are affecting the Lebanese people who are suffering from poverty and unemployment, “leading them to seek immigration to an unknown world,” as he said.    

“They are betraying the people who empowered them to serve the country,” Rai said during his holy sermon delivered at a church in Beit Chabab.    

In this context, the Patriarch called for the formation of a new cabinet as soon as possible and passing a new electoral law according to which the parliamentary elections will be held, urging for the election of a new president in accordance with the constitutional date.    

This as he called for finding a solution for the case of the Syrian refugees and solving the economic, educational, security and touristic impasses resulting from this issue.

Rai concluded by stressing that a state cannot be built amid political corruption and in the absence of respect to the Constitution and laws.
