Maronite Bishops welcome security measures implemented in Tripoli

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai chaired on Wednesday the periodic meeting of the Maronite Bishops Council at Bkerke.            

The meeting which was attended by Cardinal Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir and Maronite bishops aimed at discussing various national and ecclesiastical issues.                   

Following the meeting, the bishops praised the work of the first conference on the Christians of the Orient, considering that the conference was an occasion for Christians to express their concern over their existence in light of rising challenges.                 

On another note, the bishops expressed their felicitations to the relatives of the Aazaz hostages on the release of the nine Lebanese pilgrims, pointing out that they are praying for the release of the two abducted bishops as well as other priests and bishops whose fate remains unknown.                

The bishops expressed their hope that officials exert efforts to release the detained Lebanese citizens in Syrian prisons as well as those kidnapped in Nigeria.                   

As for the situation in Tripoli, the bishops welcomed the security measures implemented in the northern Lebanese city, noting that the continuous clashes in the northern Lebanese city are disrupting public life.           

The bishops added that officials should lift the political cover from those who are meddling in the city's security.        

Separately, the bishops expressed their disappointment over political officials’ failure in forming a new cabinet.
