Ambassador Ali denies Syria’s intention to bury chemical weapons in Lebanon

Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour met Wednesday with the Syrian ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali, and discussed the latest regional developments ahead of the Geneva II peace talks and the possible political solutions expected to be reached for the Syrian crisis.

Ambassador Ali denied media reports stating that Syrian chemical weapons may be buried in Lebanon, reiterating Syria’s keenness on implementing the agreement concerning the destruction of its chemical arsenal.

In this context, the Syrian ambassador said that his government supports any political solution reached through dialogue between Syrian factions, stressing that the Syrian regime is successfully pursuing its fight against terrorism.

He also called on all Lebanese factions and the government to abstain from protecting the Takfiri groups and facilitating the passage of gunmen, noting that these practices threaten the security in both Lebanon and Syria.
