Future Movement and FPM agree on the need for Hezbollah to withdraw from Syria

Future bloc MP Atef Majdalani declared Thursday that, during the meeting held between his bloc and the Free Patriotic Movement, both parties agreed on the need Hezbollah to withdraw its fighters from Syria and stressed the necessity to commit to the Baabda Declaration and to dissociate Lebanon from the conflicts.  

During a speech he delivered following the meeting at the Parliament, MP Majdalani pointed to the importance of reactivating the administrative institutions, starting with the formation of a new government capable of ensuring the citizens' sovereignty away from political discord.

In this context, MP Majdalani said that Hezbollah's interference in Syria provoked the draining of the crisis to Lebanon through terrorist bombings and armed clashes.

For his part, MP Ibrahim Kanaan said that Lebanon’s situation cannot bear another extension for officials’ mandates, expressing his fear that the term of the President Michel Sleiman will be extended.

“We presented proposals and draft laws aiming at avoiding institutional void in cooperation with the Future bloc and all the parliamentary blocs,” Kanaan added, noting that they are seeking common grounds in order to reach a solution that serves Lebanon’s interests and protects its institutions.
