Rai urges officials to restrict weapons to legitimate powers

During his Sunday sermon, Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai condemned the attack carried out against UNIFIL French peacekeepers, calling on the Lebanese government to assume its responsibility for the security of citizens and peacekeepers alike.

Five French soldiers were injured on Friday as a roadside bomb that targeted a UNIFIL patrol in the southern city of Tyre exploded.

Rai urged officials to gather weapons and restrict them to the legitimate Lebanese powers. "It is no longer acceptable for anyone to hold the country and its stability hostage under any slogans or claims”, Rai added.
