Caretaker PM Mikati: We will not turn a blind eye on those behind Tripoli's twin blasts

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati held a press conference on Tuesday at his residence in Tripoli where he stressed that "those who undermine the security forces cannot be protected," and said: "We will not turn a blind eye on those behind Tripoli's twin blasts".

"The army has a political cover from all the Lebanese factions to carry out its duties," Mikati said.

This comes after Mikati held a series of security and political meetings whereby he said he was reassured by the situation in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli in light of Monday's decision to task the army with taking all the needed measures in order to maintain security in the city.

"The decision is a step forward since all the parties have praised it," Mikati said, calling for cooperation in implementing the decision in a bid to stop the bloodshed in the northern city.

Mikati stressed that Tripoli has the right to peace and security, noting that the army, in cooperation with all security apparatuses, will work on upholding security in the city.

He also called on everyone to cooperate with the military institution and to have confidence in the measures undertaken by the army.

Earlier, Mikati had presided over a meeting at the Serail and followed up on the Roumieh prison file in the presence of caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Samir Moqbel, caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel and caretaker State Minister Marwan Kheireddine.
