Verbal spar between Moussawi and Gemayel

A heated debate erupted at parliament between MP Nawaf Moussawi and MP Sami Gemayel on the topic of Hezbollah's network.

In the details, Gemayel attacked the resistance, considering its telecommunications lines in Tarshish as a violation to all Lebanon. Gemayel wondered: “How can this group allow itself to act this way without the state’s consent?”  

After being given the permission to speak, Moussawi retaliated by saying that the resistance is granted its legitimacy from both the government and the people. Gemayel responded: “We need to be protected from the resistance present in the street and everywhere”.

Moussawi accused Gemayel of collaborating with the enemy, in return Gemayel responded by saying: “You should be honored by our history”. Then, Kataeb MP Fadi Al Haber intervened accusing Hezbollah of being Iran’s agent. Gemayel added “respect the Lebanese and respect yourselves”, Moussawi responded: “You are not a respectful person”, to which Gemayel said “I am more respectful than you”.

In return, Moussawi ended the row by saying: “My shoe is more honorable than you”. Then, Speaker Nabih Berri intervened asking for all the improper language to be removed from the session’s minutes, stressing that he is one of the resistance’s founders and that it could not be defended that way.

Future bloc MP Mohamad Hajjar raised the issue of trespassing on public and private properties, to which PM Mikati said “We established a committee of concerned ministers to look into this issue”.
