Arslan: Resolution 1559 behind Lebanon’s current hardship

Democratic Party leader MP Talal Arslan called on the president to revive the dialogue table on Friday. He said that Lebanon is currently facing critical and exceptional circumstances that cannot be compared to any other period in history.  It is the period of prioritizing an honest, sovereign and independent national decision whilst refraining from serving western interests.

Speaking during the inauguration of a Lebanese Democratic Party office in Rashaya, Arslan said that the current hardships in Lebanon are the result of U.N. Resolution 1559.

What is happening in Lebanon is caused by this resolution that serves the interests of the Israeli enemy, he added.

The U.N. Security Council adopted Resolution 1559 on September 2, 2004, upon a joint initiative by France and the U.S., hereby calling for the respect of Lebanon's sovereignty and political independence, the withdrawal of foreign troops, i.e. the Syrian military and the Israeli forces, as well as the dissolution of militias.

He finally voiced support for Syria and renewed cleaving to a united Syria with all its political and social components.
