Future bloc head Siniora says Saudi grant will have positive impact on Lebanon

Head of the Future bloc MP Fouad Siniora praised on Monday Saudi Arabia’s “generous” grant to Lebanon, noting that it will have a positive impact on the country.

“The Kingdom’s initiative launched by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, constituted a surprising major event,” Siniora said, adding that it will enable the country to face challenges, security hazards as well as Israeli threats.

President Michel Sleiman said Sunday that Saudi Arabia has pledged $3 billion to buy weapons from France to help support and strengthen the Lebanese Armed Forces.

“The Saudi initiative was not the first of its kind,” Siniora said, noting that yesterday’s announcement comes in line with Saudi Arabia’s continuous efforts to support Lebanon’s independence, sovereignty as well as the state’s legitimate institutions.

MP Siniora added that the Kingdom’s support that was previously provided to Lebanon “was the corner stone of” the country’s steadfastness and stability.
