Patriarch Rai: Pluralism requires balanced partnership

Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai said that the Church is for everyone. “It is called upon to make everyone have faith in God’s oneness; this is the Christians’ message, no matter the difficulties.”

During the consecration of Our Lady of Assumption at Bkerke, Rai said that the Church lies in the affiliation to the nation, not to the confession. “However, confessionalism and the state neglect are responsible for reducing the Lebanese individual into a citizen confined to his confession, at a time when confessions race to attract citizens by providing services.”

Rai added that on the national level, the Church is the passage from the open conflict to the ability to communicate.

“Lebanon is an added value; Lebanese Christians and Muslims committed to Human Rights and democracy and spread them to the Levant. They preserved pluralism and cooperation”, Rai said.
