Clashes erupt again in Ain el-Hilweh

LBCI reported that gunshots were heard inside Ain el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp.

The sources added that a masked gunman opened fire on the head of the Palestinian armed factions Mahmoud Issa known as Lino, killing one of his bodyguards Amer Sleiman and injuring six others.

It was reported that a tense calm prevails at the camp amid ongoing calls to reduce tensions between different political factions.

LBCI reporter mentioned that clashes erupted between Fateh and Jind al Sham in Ain el-Hilweh camp amid calls to calm the tensions.

In this regard MP Bahia Hariri called on all parties to discuss pending issues between them without resorting to violence as its tension will spread in the entire area.

Lino told LBCI in phone call that the camp’s security is a red line that no one will be allowed to mess with as all Palestinian factions are well aware that any mistake or breach might have drawbacks on everyone.

“What happened in 1996, 2001 and in 2004 will not be repeated and that is for sure”, Lino said referring to the bloody clashes that occurred in the camp.

During the night two rocket bombs were launched in the air from Ain El-Helweh Camp , creating a state of tension inside the Camp.

Many families left the Camp heading towards Sidon for fear of renewed fights which have led to the killing of two people and the wounding of three others.

The Palestinian Follow-Up Committee is currently exerting efforts to deal with developments and adopt the necessary measures needed to restore normal life to the Camp.
