President Sleiman meets with Ghosn, Kahwagi over security situation

President Michel Sleiman met on Tuesday with caretaker Minister of Defense Fayez Ghosn at the Baabda Palace, and tackled with him the latest political and governmental developments.

Discussions also featured high over the ongoing deliberations between the Lebanese and French Ministries of Defense over the Saudi donation to the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Last month, President Michel Sleiman said that Saudi Arabia has pledged $3 billion to buy weapons from France to help support and strengthen the Lebanese army.

"Saudi Arabia is giving the Lebanese army $3 billion in aid," Sleiman said, calling it the largest grant ever given to the country's armed forces.

This as President Sleiman held talks with Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Jean Kahwagi over the needs of the Lebanese army.

He also met with General Security chief Major General Abbas Ibrahim  and discussed with him the files that Ibrahim is following up on, as well as the situation of border crossings.

Among Baabda's visitors was also Governor of Banque du Liban Riad Salameh who briefed President Sleiman over the monetary and banking situations in the country.
