STL adjourns hearing session until Tuesday

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) adjourned on Monday its hearing session, in which the Prosecution called witness Abdul Badih El-Soussi, until Tuesday morning.

The STL resumed on Monday at 11:30 a.m. Beirut local time its sessions in The Hague and continued listening to witnesses.

The STL had adjourned its session on Friday until today after it had dedicated the last session to looking into adding the case of Hassan Merhi to the case of Ayash et al.              

In this context, the prosecution said that all the files and evidence related to the case of Ayash have been revealed, noting that a search operation for additional witnesses will be conducted and may last for weeks.  

The trial in absentia of the four suspects accused of killing Lebanese statesman Rafic Hariri opened in The Hague on Thursday January 16th, nine years after the bomb attack in which the former prime minister and 21 others died.            

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon was set up by the United Nations at the Lebanese government's request to try the alleged perpetrators of the 2005 bombing in which former PM Hariri and 21 others were killed.          

The suspects - Mustafa Amine Badreddine, a senior Hezbollah figure and brother-in-law of slain Hezbollah commander Imad Moughniyeh, Salim Jamil Ayyash, Hussein Hassan Oneissi and Assad Hassan Sabra - remain at large.
