President Sleiman gives directives for farewell address

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman stressed on Tuesday the importance of democracy as well as the rotation of power, pointing out that forcing a lack of quorum at the parliament in order to obstruct the presidential elections is undemocratic.

In an interview with General Security Magazine, President Sleiman said the presidency of the Lebanese Republic did not start and will not end with him, calling for the implementation of laws in accordance with the Lebanese constitution, and emphasizing the necessity of adherence to the Taif Agreement.

Sleiman also mentioned that he has disclosed his directives for a farewell speech that he will be delivering at the end of his term.

On another note, President Sleiman expressed his hope that Lebanon witnesses a prosperous phase after the end of the Syrian crisis.

President Michel Sleiman's six-year term ends in May amid fears that the ongoing disputes between the March 8 and 14 forces will result in the failure to elect his successor seemingly since they have failed to form a new government more than ten months after the appointment of Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam.
