Lebanese national arrested for smuggling Syrians into Lebanon

The state-run National News Agency reported on Friday that the Lebanese army arrested a Lebanese national on charges of smuggling Syrians into Lebanon.

The agency added that the arrestee is identified as Ahmed al-Hallani and was arrested at the Ain al-Shaab checkpoint in the Bekaa town of Arsal.

He is charged of smuggling Syrians from the town of al-Qalamoun into Lebanon through the border town of Arsal.

The agency also added that eight Syrians riding in a van were also detained.

Arsal, a predominantly Sunni area, backs the uprising against Syrian President Bashar Assad.
