March 14 urges Foreign Ministry to file complaint against Syria to UN

The March 14 General Secretariat urged on Friday the Foreign Ministry to file a complaint against Syria to the United Nations over the cross-border violations.

A statement issued by the general secretariat called on the cabinet, “mainly March 14 ministers, to adopt the complaint to safeguard Lebanon's independence, sovereignty and unity of its land.”

On Monday, President Sleiman tasked Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil with documenting the attacks against Lebanese villages in order to take the necessary diplomatic measures.

Since the Syrian crisis started in March 2011, several border areas in the north and east Lebanon have been frequently struck by shelling, while the Syrian regime has told Lebanon to better control its border to prevent the smuggling of fighters and arms.
