Joint Parliamentary Committees hold session over Pay Scale

The Joint Parliamentary Committees convened on Monday to discuss the funding of the series of ranks and salaries.

If the committees fail to broker a settlement, Speaker Nabih Berri will call on them to hold another session on Tuesday to put the Pay Scale draft law on the agenda of Thursday's legislative session.

Head of the Union Coordination Committee Hanna Gharib said the UCC is calling for a series of ranks and salaries that guarantees, not undermines, the teachers' rights.

"Any delay in approving the wage scale will lead to further escalation," he said after a meeting held between a delegation of the UCC and Deputy Speaker Farid Makari on Friday.

Gharib also vowed to hold an open-ended strike and to boycott the official exams.

The Union Coordinating Committee launched its open ended strike on February 19th 2013 after making repeated calls on then Prime Minister Mikati to validate the new salary scale and consequently refer it to Parliament for ratification.
