PM Salam expresses hope that parliament elects president within constitutional deadline
Prime Minister Tammam Salam lauded on Wednesday the electoral process, stating that it was a reflection of the country's democracy despite its results.

PM Salam mentioned that the parliamentary session came as part of the political consensus that prevailed in the country since the formation of the cabinet.

Salam expressed his hope that parliament elect the most suitable candidate within the constitutional deadline.

The Lebanese parliament convened on Wednesday to elect a new president; however, failed to do so in the first round of voting.

During the session 48 deputies voted in favor of Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, 16 MPs endorsed candidate Henry Helou, 52 casted blank voting slips, 1 deputy voted for Kataeb leader Amin Gemayel and 7 votes were annulled.
