Riots erupt at Roumieh prison

Media reports stated on Tuesday that riots erupted at Roumieh prison in protest against strict security measures implemented at the facility.

The protests broke out at the juvenile zone as a fire later erupted at the facility.

This as an Internal Security Forces unit later entered the juvenile area to arrest three inmates, who comprise a gang that embezzles prisoners and civilians.

Roumieh is the largest and most overcrowded of Lebanon's prisons.

It has a capacity for 1,500 inmates, but over 4,000 are imprisoned there.
