On the Lebanese scene, the new year is expected to kick off as of tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow at the latest. The State Shura Council is expected to take a final decision on the wage adjustment decree tomorrow, and all the indications show that the decree will be returned. Therefore, it will become an item imposing itself on the cabinet’s table on Wednesday; the third time will not be a charm and, for the fourth time in a row, the issue will go back to the cabinet.

On the international scene, the Syrian incidents remain at the forefront. Today, the Syrian opposition’s campaign against the Arab monitors escalated, prompting the Arab League’s Secretary General to acknowledge that the last report he was handed advised that there were still gunshots and snipers in Syria. It is hard to say who shot who, he said adding that the head of the Arab League monitoring mission will send his first report to the League within two days.
