Cabinet session kicks off at the Baabda Palace

A cabinet session kicked off on Friday at the Baabda Palace under the chairmanship of President Michel Sleiman and in the presence of Prime Minister Tammam Salam and ministers to look into a 57-item agenda that includes administrative appointments among other items, the state-run National News Agency reported.

During the session, president Sleiman expressed his hope that Lebanese deputies would elect a new president even if they were to hold various parliamentary sessions.

He also considered the security situation in the country as stable, stating that the security plan is being implemented and citizens are responding to measures.

On another note, the cabinet appointed Ramzi Nohra, Ziad Chbib, Fouad Fleifel, and Bachir Khoder as governors of North Lebanon, Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and Baalbek-Hermel respectively.

Prior to the session, Environment Minister Mohammad Mashnouq stated that there will be no appointments pertaining to the Customs' employees during the session. As for Public Health Minister Wael Abu Faour, he hoped the appointments would be finalized as per the session's agenda. For his part, Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi said that discussion over appointments would be "balanced." As for Environment Minister Mohammad Mashnouq, he confirmed that new district governors would be appointed.       

This as, Education Minister Elias Bou Saab mentioned that he will call during the session for drafting a law that aims at building the Jal El-Dib bridge, adding that he will also call for forming a committee to study the said dossier within the span of 10 days.
