Bassil: Disrespecting Christians’ will concerning elections undermines presidency
Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil called Monday for holding the presidential elections on time in order to maintain Lebanon’s unity, noting that disrespecting the will of the Lebanese Christians concerning the presidential elections undermines the status of the presidency.

During his meeting with a delegation of Lebanese nationals in Berlin, Bassil stressed that the Lebanese factions must not be divided over Lebanon’s foreign policy and defense strategy, pointing out that the Lebanese Armed Forces represent the country’s sovereignty and independence.

“All the parties must support and stand by the army,” he stressed, adding that when the resistance works on liberating the nation, it becomes a symbol of sovereignty and independence that must be preserved.

In this regard, Bassil noted that terrorism is targeting all parties without exception, stating that national unity is the only weapon capable of fighting against these attempts.

However, he said that internal differences are a lawful right, given that they do not cause national disputes that hinder the interests of the citizens and divide the country.
