Minister Azzi: Kataeb party leader Amine Gemayel's tour will include Lebanese leaders of all sects

Minister of Labor Sajaan Azzi told As-Seyassah newspaper on Wednesday that the tour launched by the Kataeb leader Amine Gemayel will not be limited to Maronite figures but will include Lebanese leaders of all sects.

Azzi added that Gemayel's initiative comes in a bid to spare the country presidential vacuum, adding however that the Kataeb leader suspended his candidacy for the presidency.

He concluded by saying that some Lebanese sides are hindering the election of a new president.

Chief Palestinian negotiator says Israel is hindering peace negotiations

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat told Acharq al-Awsat newspaper on Wednesday that the door of the peace negotiations with Israel is still open.

Erakat added that contacts with the US administration are still ongoing, slamming media reports about secret negotiations with Israel.

He also blamed Israel for hindering the negotiations process following the announcement of reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah.

MP Jumblatt says PM Salam's cabinet would practice presidential powers in case of vacuum-sources

Sources quoted Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt as saying on Wednesday that Prime Minister Tammam Salam's government would practice the powers of the president in case of a presidential vacuum.

The same sources told Al-Hayat newspaper that Jumblatt noted that it would be better to elect a new president by the end of President Michel Sleiman's mandate on May 25.
