Jumblatt calls for approving pay scale with moderate and reasonable figures

The head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt regretted Monday the failure of economic issues garnering apt attention for solutions required from the components of the Lebanese political community, which he said leads to the exacerbation of the problem at hand.

“This leads the discussion of these issues to be subject to factional calculations based on self-interest...decisions will be issued without taking into consideration technical and scientific studies based on accurate figures,” he explained.

In his weekly statement to al-Anbaa website, Jumblatt said all parties concerned with these demands, whether parliament or the trade unions, must take into account the current situation of the country's state treasury, in order to prevent the approval of the pay scale from becoming a reckless step, the effects of which may bring harm.

In this regard, he stressed the need to approve a pay scale that includes moderate and reasonable figures, not large compensations that even the most advanced of European states cannot handle.
