Mikati: Cabinet efficient only through cooperation

The cabinet held a meeting at the Grand Serail on Wednesday chaired by PM Najib Mikati to discuss 72 items on its agenda.

During the session, Energy Minister Gebran Bassil displayed the overall directions of rules, regulations and executive decrees related to Lebanon’s offshore resources. The cabinet did not look into the appointment and wage adjustment issues, both of which will be discussed during next week’s session held in Baabda Palace.

Mikati praised measures taken by the ISF who worked in compliance with the instructions issued by the concerned ministers.

“Last year a number of important issues were not settled. They should be this year. We must have a strong will in order to realize the desired achievements on all levels”, Mikati said in reference to the budget, appointments, wage adjustment, drilling for oil and gas, improving the electricity as well as other development and social issues.   

Mikati said that although domestic issues are of an utmost importance, we should not fail to tackle external ones. “The cabinet cannot be efficient and responsible unless ministers unify their ranks and cooperate with constitutional authorities”, Mikati said.
