The Change and Reform bloc held on Tuesday its weekly meeting at Rabieh during which it tackled the latest developments in Lebanon.

Following the meeting, former Minister Salim Jreissati spoke on behalf of the Free Patriotic Movement MPs, whereby he announced that they would attend tomorrow’s parliamentary session where President Michel Sleiman is set to address lawmakers.

He also noted that Sleiman's call “came late,” adding that it was absent when constitutional deadlocks prevailed in the country during his presidential term, and did not tackle the obstruction of work at the Constitutional Council.

Jreissati stressed that the bloc is not hindering quorum at parliament to elect a new president but is instead “holding onto the National Pact.”

Speaker Berri called Monday for holding a parliamentary session on Wednesday to discuss President Michel Sleiman's message to parliament over the presidential election.

Last Friday, Sleiman urged the parliament to act in accordance with the Constitution to spare Lebanon the dangers that could emerge from the failure to elect a new president by May 25.

The president's message is only of moral value and by no means can oblige the speaker or the lawmakers into action in accordance with the authorities given to the president by clause 10 of article 53 of the Constitution.

Parliament failed to elect a new president due to disputes between the March 8 and 14 camps.

Most of the March 8 alliance's MPs boycotted four rounds of elections over their call for an agreement on a consensual president and their rejection of the candidacy of their Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea.

A fifth round of polls is scheduled to be held next Thursday, two days before the expiry of Sleiman's six-year tenure.

The message is the third of-its-kind handed over to the parliament since the adoption of the Taef accord.

President Elias Hrawi had urged the parliament in his message to approve civil marriage in Lebanon and to establish the “National Authority for the abolition of political sectarianism,” while former President Emile Lahoud dispatched a message regarding the electoral law.
