Nahhas: Tourism sector slackened during Arab Spring

Economy and Trade Minister Nicolas Nahhas said on Thursday that economic indices are confusing, because Lebanon has been going through a phase of reconstruction since 1990.

During a conference held in the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, Nahhas stressed the need to introduce reforms in order to lower the deficit rate, improve the productivity of the economic sector and streamline the services provided by the judicial system.

Nahhas also underscored the importance of supporting small and medium enterprises.

Nahhas noted that the tourism sector witnessed a 25% slowdown due to the Arab Spring. Nahhas added that only 34% of tourists in 2011 hailed from Arab countries compared to 42% in 2010.
