France's Hollande voices concern over Lebanese situation

French President Francois Hollande telephoned on Sunday former President Michel Sleiman and voiced his concern over the Lebanese situation after the country officially entered a power vacuum.

In this regard, Hollande hoped that Lebanon would elect a new president the soonest possible and that presidential void would not last too long.

He also thanked Sleiman for all efforts he had exerted during his term in a bid to maintain security and stability in Lebanon.

For his part, the Lebanese former president highlighted the importance of cooperation between both countries, which aims to uphold bilateral relations at all levels.

With Sleiman's departure, Lebanon enters a presidential vacancy with no clear sign when it will end.
Sleiman's powers will pass to Prime Minister Tammam Salam's government, which is also supposed to prepare for a parliamentary election later this year.
