LAF units block Tripoli-Akkar road, deploy near mosques
Lebanese Armed Forces units blocked on Friday the road in Tripoli's Abou Ali roundabout, which leads to the Akkar district.

Members of the Internal Security Forces also established numerous checkpoints in the northern city as LAF troops deployed near mosques.

The Lebanese army and the security apparatuses have implemented a security plan in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli which had witnessed several rounds of violence, killing hundreds of people.

This comes after the cabinet tasked the army and security forces with controlling the security situation in Tripoli and the eastern Bekaa Valley in areas bordering Syria.

Disputes from neighboring Syria's civil war frequently inflame sectarian grievances in Tripoli.

These clashes pit gunmen from both the mostly Sunni Bab Tabbaneh district and the Jabal Mohsen district which mostly comprises residents of Syrian President Bashar Assad's Alawite sect, a Shiite Islam offshoot.

This latest security measure comes in light of precautionary measures undertaken by the state in order to thwart terrorist plots.

Earlier on Friday, the Internal Security Forces Information bureau raided a hotel in Hamra Street in Beirut, after reports of the presence of several fugitives, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Later on, a suicide bomber blew himself up at a security checkpoint in Lebanon's Daher al-Baydar in the Eastern Bekaa Valley, leaving 1 person killed, an ISF member, and up to 32 wounded, the health ministry said.
