UN's Plumbly lauds LAF, security forces for safeguarding Lebanon
United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly issued on Thursday a statement whereby he said he was delighted to be back in Tripoli and see its residents able to move freely after the implementation of the security plan.

Plumbly also thanked Mufti of Tripoli and the North Sheikh Malek Chaar for receiving him at his residence in Lebanon's northern city.

"I seize this opportunity to pay tribute to the Lebanese army and the security forces for safeguarding security and stability in Tripoli recently and across the country," Plumbly said.

In this regard, he noted that it is also an opportunity to recognize the "difficult work" of the Lebanese Armed Forces and security forces in ending terrorism.

"Events which have recently occurred in Beirut and the Bekaa reminded us how valuable that security is," Plumbly said, noting that he had the opportunity to tour Tripoli's Syria Street for the first time earlier Thursday.

"I visited a project where women from Jabal Mohsen and Bab El-Tabbaneh are working together," Plumbly said, adding that he is aware of the dire socio-economic situation as well as the need for longer-term development.

The UN official also said he is discussing with a number of UN agencies what more the United Nations can do to help in this regard.
