Shura Council approves on wage decree provided minimum wage is respected

The Shura Council approved on Wednesday the wage decree draft provided that its remarks be taken into consideration. One of the most prominent remarks is that the cabinet will determine the minimum wage in a decree and will have to take into account the substantive procedures that will look into the studies conducted by the index committee.

The cabinet will also have to make sure that the decree does not include any clause that will lead to lowering the official minimum wage. The Shura Council confirmed that the minimum wage is binding and cannot be reduced regardless of the raise that might have been given prior to the employee.

The employer can deduct an amount from the salary up to 125,000 LBP in exchange for transportation fees without the consent of the employee. The Shura Council stressed that transportation fees should not be included in the salary.
