Jumblatt calls for reaching comprehensive deal in Gaza, not only a ceasefire

The head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt said Monday that the continuous Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip is not related to the Hamas Movement, but targets the Palestinian people who have been subject to oppression, humiliation, neglect, occupation and displacement for at least a century.

“The Palestinians will never leave Gaza, they will keep on struggling no matter the price they pay,” he stressed.

In his weekly statement to al-Anbaa website, Jumblatt said that the new Israeli aggression, just as all the previous Israeli attacks, including the ones against Beirut, Sidon and South Lebanon in 1982, the wars waged against Lebanon in 1993, 1996 and 2006, as well as the attacks inside the occupied lands, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, lead to one conclusion, which is Israel’s aim to wreak further havoc in the region.

In this context, the PSP leader pointed out that “this is not the time to settle the issues with Hamas or any other Palestinian faction, but to take a stand and voice solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinians.”

Accordingly, Jumblatt called for reaching a comprehensive deal, not only a ceasefire, that will include the opening of all Arab and Israeli border crossings, lifting the siege off the Gaza Strip and releasing tens of thousands of prisoners and detainees.
