Hamas official to LBCI: Israel's offensive on Gaza targets the Palestinian national unity
The leader of the Palestinian security forces in Lebanon Munir al-Maqdah said on Saturday that the Palestinians managed to spare the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon the repercussions of the regional crisis.

He also noted that the Palestinians were able to safeguard the inter-Palestinian relations, as well as the relations with the Lebanese authorities.

Al-Maqdah's comments were made during a live interview with Nharkom Said TV show aired from the Ain el-Helweh refugee camp where he asserted that  Israel aims to target the Palestinian reconciliation.

For his part, Hamas official Ahmad Abdel-Hadi said that the US administration and Israel do not want the Palestinian reconciliation to see the light, adding that the Egyptian  initiative to secure a truce between Hamas and Israel is "unfair."

In turn, member of the Palestine Liberation Front in Lebanon Salah Youssef said that Israel's offensive on the Gaza Strip targets the Palestinian national unity, adding that Israel is the sole beneficiary of the Palestinian split.

Israeli forces on Saturday pressed ahead with a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, where Palestinian militants kept firing rockets deep into Israel's heartland, pushing the death toll past 300 in almost two weeks of conflict.

The current conflict - the worst warfare between Israelis and Palestinians in two years - was stoked by the killing of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank last month and the death on July 2 of a Palestinian youth in a suspected revenge murder.

Israel last mounted a large-scale invasion of the Gaza Strip during a three-week war in late 2008 and early 2009 that claimed 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israeli lives.
