MP Aoun says his bloc aims at holding parliamentary elections
Change and Reform Bloc leader MP Michel Aoun stated on Tuesday that the initiative of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri reflects his own opinion, stressing that the bloc’s current priority is reforming electoral laws and holding parliamentary elections.

Following the bloc’s weekly meeting, MP Aoun said that the electoral law for the upcoming parliamentary elections should secure the representation of all minorities, stressing that there are Christian as well as Muslim minorities that are not represented in parliament.

MP Aoun added that some parties are trying to disregard national pacts and other parties are making deals pertaining to the presidential entitlement.

“How would the election of a president directly from the people breach the Taef agreement?” MP Aoun asked.

On the situation in Iraq, MP Aoun stated that the UN Security Council should address the crimes against humanity taking place in Mosul and refer them to the International Criminal Court.

As for the developments in Gaza, MP Aoun saluted the steadfastness of the people of Gaza in the face of the Israeli aggression, stressing that Israeli attacks are taking the form of ethnic cleansing, which is aimed at eliminating the Palestinian identity.
