UCC announces general strike on Aug. 6th

Hanna Gharib, a member of the Union Coordination Committee, announced on Thursday that a general strike will be held on the 6th of August, urging "all those dragging Lebanon towards chaos to act in a manner that would allow students to have access to educational institutions".

Gharib reiterated the committee's steadfastness in terms of defending the rights of its members, "none can outbid the regard of teachers toward students at our expense".

In turn, the head of the Private Schools Teachers Association Nehme Mahfoud blamed the political class for what he dubbed "lack of responsibility" when it comes to the needs of both students and teachers.
