Syrian warplanes raid Arsal, injuries reported

The state-run National News Agency reported on Friday that Syrian warplanes raided several regions on the outskirts of the eastern border town of Arsal.

The agency noted that warplanes targeted the areas of al-Ajram and al-Zamurani.

Ambulances rushed to the scene to transfer the injured to nearby hospitals, the news agency added.

Arsal, a predominantly Sunnite region, supports the uprising against Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The town is located 12 kilometers away from the border with Syria and has been used as a conduit to smuggle weapons and fighters into Syria, while also serving as a refuge for people fleeing the conflict.

The town has witnessed a massive influx of refugees due to the heavy fighting in Qalamoun.
