Patriarch Rai urges UCC to correct official exams
Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai urged on Sunday the Union Coordination Committee to stop taking the future of the Lebanese students hostage.

Rai's comments were made during Sunday's sermon whereby he urged the UCC to assume its responsibilities and cooperate with Education Minister Elias Bou Saab.

He dubbed the UCC's decision to boycott the correction of exams as “unfair,” adding that it will not have a positive or negative impact on the new wage scale.

On Friday, Minister Bou Saab announced that he is going forward with issuing passing certificates for all school students who sat for official exams, calling on teachers and the uCC to end their boycott of exams correction.

Bou Saab added that he will call on the committees to start correcting exams on Monday, expressing hope that the UCC would approve to end the correction boycott.

Rai  also called on MPs to respect the constitution and elect a new president as soon as possible, stressing that he doesn’t favor any presidential candidate.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum after Michel Sleiman's presidential mandate ended on May 25 with political blocs still divided over a new leader.
