Following the bloc’s weekly meeting, MP Ibrahim Kanaan put in question the fate of soldiers who were kidnapped during clashes with armed groups in Arsal, stressing that all Lebanese factions and authorities should bear their responsibilities in this regard.
On another note, MP Kanaan stated that the bloc’s position regarding the new wage hike has been clear since the early stages, calling on all sides hindering the approval of the series of ranks and salaries to clarify their stances.
In this regard, MP Kanaan called on the Union Coordinating Committee as well as parliamentary blocs hindering the ratification of the said dossier to find a final solution for this issue, urging deputies to ensure quorum and pass the wage hike.
Commenting on MP Nicolas Fattouch proposal which stipulates the extension of parliament’s mandate for 2 years and 7 months, MP Kanaan stated that some parties were justifying their approval of the said proposal, emphasizing that these factions should be held accountable for the possible extension of parliament’s term.
He also stated that “the bloc is against changing articles within the constitution especially those pertaining to the rotation of power and democracy.”
“There are other options such as adopting a new electoral law, or electing a president directly by the people,” Kanaan concluded.
