Hezbollah kills IS commander in Syria's Qalamoun

Hezbollah killed an Islamic State commander allegedly responsible for sending rigged cars into Lebanon, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The observatory reported early Tuesday that Abou Abdullah al-Iraqi, who was in charge of training suicide bombers and rigging cars with explosives, was killed in the Syrian region of Qalamoun.

In March, the Syrian army along with Hezbollah seized control of the rebel bastion of Yabroud, dealing the opposition a heavy blow in the Qalamoun region adjoining the Lebanese border.

Hezbollah's military involvement in Syria has prompted retaliatory bomb and rocket attacks by extremist groups against regions in Lebanon supporting the movement. The attacks have mostly killed civilians.

Hezbollah and Lebanese security forces have frequently said many of the car bombs used in those attacks originated in Yabroud.
