Judge Abou Samra hears testimony of Syrian celebrity Asala Nasri, returns her passport
Judge Charbel Abou Samra heard on Thursday the testimony of Syrian singer Asala Nasri at the Justice Palace, subsequently returning her passport.

On Wednesday, judicial authorities agreed to return the passport of prominent Syrian celebrity Asala Nasri, canceling the search and investigation warrant issued against her after it appeared that the warrant was issued by the Syrian authorities in 2013 for “political reasons.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the Lebanese General Security at Beirut's airport revoked the Syrian passport of Nasri, referring her to the prosecutor’s office in Lebanon. The celebrity was allegedly stopped after being flagged by the international police agency (INTERPOL).

Security sources told LBCI that Nasri was arrested following the order of General Prosecutor Judge Charbel Abou Samra.

She was later on released provided that she will be summoned for further investigation.

In turn, Minister of Justice Achraf Rifi told LBCI that the celebrity's passport will be returned to her, adding that the Lebanese authorities will not be "tools in the hands of the Syrian regime."

Asala had arrived to Beirut's airport, after she was invited to appear in a Star Academy episode.

This is not the first visit by the Syrian songstress. Asala had frequently voiced stances against the Syrian regime in the first year of the uprising that erupted in Syria.

She also criticized some Arab countries, including Lebanon, prompting several reactions in the media and on social media platforms.
