PM Salam says case of abducted troops is "difficult and complicated"
The cabinet convened on Thursday in a session at the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tammam Salam.

Following the session, Prime Minister Tammam Salam said that the case of the abducted Lebanese soldiers in the border town of Arsal is "difficult and complicated", noting however that progress is being made in this regard.

On another note, Salam refused to comment on the extension of the parliament's mandate.

The cabinet also approved the Higher Relief Commission's request for two treasury loans worth LBP 450 billion that are aimed at paying compensations for damage sustained during recent clashes and bombings.

Prior to the session, Education Minister Elias Bou Saab stressed that the deputies of the Free Patriotic Movement will not sign the decree pertaining to the extension of the Parliament's mandate, noting that "by signing this decree a new violation of the prerogatives of the President would be carried out."

For his part, Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said that the Foreign Ministry has assumed its responsibilities regarding all the requirements to hold the parliamentary elections, through issuing written circulars as of last May.

On Wednesday, Lebanese lawmakers held a parliamentary session under the chairmanship of Speaker Nabih Berri and extended the term of the parliament until 2017 with 95 votes, and amid the boycott of the Free Patriotic Movement and Kataeb party MPs.
