Masked gunmen open fire at a clinic in Arsal

The state-run national News Agency reported on Saturday that masked gunmen opened fire at dawn on at the guards of the Hariri clinic in the border town of Arsal.

The agency added that unknown armed men on a motorcycle opened fire at the Hariri clinic in the town, causing material damage.

Acts of sabotage and armed violence have been on the rise in the last weeks in the Bekaa town of Arsal, where armed men are trying to take the village back to August 2, when extremists from the Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State crossed the border and engaged in clashes with the Lebanese army.

A ceasefire was reached a few days later, but the armed men took with them several captive Lebanese troops and policemen as they withdrew to mountainous regions. Seven were released so far, while three have since been executed at the hands of the jihadists.
