Al-Nusra Front says will execute captive unless Lebanon releases female terror suspect
The al-Nusra Front threatened on Thursday to execute one of the 26 captives being held by jihadis in the border town of Arsal unless Lebanon frees a female terrorist suspect within 24 hours.

“This is the final warning for negotiations to begin seriously or else we will execute one of our captives we are holding in 24 hours,” read a statement post on a the al-Nusra Front Twitter account.

The statement also said that if the Lebanese government wanted to prove that it is willing to carry out serious negotiations then it must free Joumana Hmeid, who was previously charged by Military Prosecutor Saqr Saqr for being involved with Al-Qaeda-linked groups, after she was caught driving a car rigged with 50 kilograms of explosives on the Arsal-Labweh road last February.

Hmeid is the first woman to be accused of complicity with a terrorist organization since the wave of car bombs and suicide attacks hitting areas seen as loyal to Hezbollah over the past year and a half.

After Hmeid’s release is secured, the Lebanese government should start carrying out demands the al-Nusra Front had previously issued, the statement said.

The al- Nusra Front also accused the government of carrying out a media blackout over negotiations in a bid to maintain the current stalemate.

The statement also slammed Hezbollah for “disrupting negotiations,” while accusing the armed party of using "immoral means"  to free one of its fighters who was held by the the Free Syrian Army earlier this week.

More than 30 Lebanese troops were kidnapped by the al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State during a five-day clashes  with the Lebanese Army in Arsal. The jihadis have since executed three and released seven so far.
