Cardinal Rai calls for cooperation to elect new Lebanese president

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros al-Rai warned on Saturday of a "foreign funding" aiming to undermine the Church and Maronite Patriarchate in Lebanon and other Middle Eastern countries.

“I hope we could all cooperate to overcome this critical phase and elect a new president,” Rai said on Saturday in a meeting with the youth at St. Maroun Church in Dora.

“No one has the right to violate the constitution or replace the country’s president,” Cardinal Rai said, adding “we are holding dialogue with all parties in Lebanon and abroad”.

“The Church is doing its utmost to alleviate the economic distress but the Lebanese state should fulfill its duties towards the citizens who are choking under the burden of crises,” he concluded.
