France lauds agreement to support Lebanese Armed Forces
During his press briefing on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the French Foreign Affairs Ministry and International Development issued a statement in which he hailed the Lebanese-French agreement to implement an assistance initiative in support of the Lebanese Armed Forces.

The agreement, funded by a Saudi grant, will strengthen the Lebanese army in its defense missions against terrorism.

"While Lebanon faces a deteriorating security situation, the military institution, which pays a hefty price fighting terrorism, must remain the sole guarantor of unity and stability in Lebanon," the French embassy's statement read.

France and Saudi Arabia signed the agreement at the beginning of November for Paris to provide the Lebanese army with $3 billion worth of weapons paid for by Riyadh.

The deal, which was first announced last year December, aims to boost the Lebanese army as it struggles to contain a rising wave of violence linked to the war in neighboring Syria.
