Former PM Mikati says contacts are being made to expedite election of president
Former Prime Minister Najib Mikati stated on Thursday that the election of a new president will be delayed until the situation is calm in the region.

Following a meeting with Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai at the patriarchate in Bkerke, Mikati noted that contacts are being held with various Lebanese factions to speed up the election of a president.

Lebanon has plunged into presidential vacuum following the end of former President Michel Sleiman's mandate on May 25.

Several electoral sessions were held, but parliament has failed so far to elect a new head of state due to lack of quorum.
