Syrian ambassador to Lebanon says he “understands and appreciates” measures across border
Syria's ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali expressed on Saturday understanding to the steps taken by the Lebanese state to organize the movement of Syrian nationals into and out of Lebanon.

“The measures are to organize the process due to the high burdens imposed by the policies adopted in Lebanon,” Ali said after holding talks with former Prime Minister Salim el-Hoss at his residence in Beirut's Aisha Bakkar.

“We understand and appreciate the measures.”

However, he noted that such steps require complete coordination between both countries.

Lebanon has all but shut its frontiers to new refugees, allowing only humanitarian exceptions to cross into the country, and the Lebanese state is beyond its absorption capacities and needs other countries to share its burden.

Lebanon hosts more than 1.5 million Syrian refugees who have put massive pressure on the country's limited resources and contributed to rising tensions.
