Telecommunications Minister Boutros Harb commented Monday on the attack against the Lebanese lawyers who were participating in the General Conference of the Arab Lawyers Union, held in Cairo, describing the incident as “a barbarian act.”
Accordingly, he urged the concerned parties to suspend the membership of Syria at the Arab Lawyers Union, or to suspend Lebanon’s participation in the conference.
Following his meeting with Prime Minister Tammam Salam, Harb said that this attack targeted all the Lebanese people, not only the lawyers, adding that a lawyer’s message is to fight an argument with an argument, rather than physical assault.
“The incident shows the deep hatred held by the Syrian lawyers who support the Syrian regime,” he stated.
The Lebanese lawyers representing the Bar Associations of Tripoli and Beirut at the 23rd General Conference of the Arab Lawyers Union, held in Cairo, were attacked by the Syrian delegation of lawyers, during a speech delivered by member of the Future Movement Lawyer Fadi Saad on terrorism affairs.
