Assir to become IS Emir in Lebanon-sources
Security apparatuses obtained information on Wednesday stating that fugitive hardline cleric Ahmed al-Assir will be appointed by the Islamic State as the Emir of Lebanon.

Asir has been allegedly taking refuge at the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain el-Helweh since 2013 when his group was involved in deadly clashes with the Lebanese army in the southern city of Sidon.

The clashes were seen to be linked to the conflict in neighboring Syria, and have resulted in the death of at least 16 soldiers.

Judicial authorities have issued a detention order for Assir and 123 of his supporters.

Jihadists from al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and IS are deployed on the outskirts of the border town of Arsal on the Syrian-Lebanese border.

They engaged in bloody clashes with the Lebanese army last August and took with them hostages from the military and police.

Earlier, security sources told al-Joumhouria newspaper on Thursday that the Islamic State will soon proclaim the establishment of an Islamic Emirate in Lebanon, adding that the group will appoint Assir as the Emir of Lebanon.

The same sources added that the Islamic State group is plotting plot military operations in Lebanon, noting that it asked support from North Syria to achieve these goals.
