Hezbollah dubs execution of Jordanian pilot as “brutal crime”
Hezbollah condemned on Wednesday the execution by burning of Jordanian fighter pilot Maaz al-Kassasbeh at the hands of the Islamic State group, dubbing the execution as a “brutal crime.”
“Hezbollah condemns the brutal, heinous crime that was committed by the IS gang against the Jordanian pilot,” the party said in a statement.
“The appalling method used by the IS gang is usually used by the most malicious of butchers,” Hezbollah added, offering condolences to the pilot's family and to the Jordanian people.
“It has become necessary for a lot of countries in the region and the world to reassess their policies which are based on backing terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq,” the party added.
“Through their massacres and atrocities, these groups are purposely distorting the image of Islam and Muslims and pushing people away from religion by issuing bizarre and condemned fatwas,” Hezbollah said.
Jordan's king rushed home Wednesday, cutting short a U.S. trip, to rally public support for even tougher strikes against the Islamic State group after the militants released a video showing a captured Jordanian pilot being burned to death in a cage.

The gruesome killing of 26-year-old Lt. Muath Al-Kaseasbeh, captured while participating in airstrikes by a U.S.-led coalition targeting the militants, sparked outrage across the Middle East and anti-Islamic State protests in Jordan.

In the 20-minute video, the pilot displayed signs of having been beaten, including a black eye. Toward the end of the clip, he is shown wearing an orange jumpsuit. He stands in an outdoor cage as a masked militant ignites a line of fuel leading to it.
